eContinuity Solutions, a computer recycling and consulting firm, has donated more than 100 computers and monitors to i.c.stars, a non-profit technology and leadership training program for young adults.

The computers will allow current and future i.c.stars' interns to participate in a Saturday build-your-own PC training series run by UBS volunteers. As part of their training, i.c.stars interns learn to assemble a computer and install operating systems during the workshop dubbed "Linuxpalooza." Additional computers donated by eContinuity Solutions will support i.c.stars' Web Studio training program.

"We are thrilled to have the opportunity to donate PCs to the Linuxpalooza program. It is a terrific program for the interns to learn the foundations of information technology," said Thomas Whang, partner, eContinuity Solutions. "We look forward to contributing more equipment and expertise to i.c.stars' various programs and helping develop future IT leaders."

UBS will provide volunteer staff to run the workshop.

"I was pleased to see my team come together to lead this initiative for i.c.stars. I know pulling together all the pieces for a replicable model like this was a significant challenge. They take a great deal of pride in the work that they do with i.c.stars," said James Vanek, CTO, Alternative and Quantitative Investments, UBS Global Asset Management.

"When Jim Vanek first brought this idea to i.c.stars we told him about the challenges we'd had securing a reliable and recurring source of hardware to make it all work," said i.c.stars vice president Eric Lannert. "Jim's team found a sustainable solution through eContinuity Solutions and as a result, all future i.c.stars interns and alums will have an enhanced understanding of the technology underlying their application development efforts."
